We have done a lot of research on this subject and have decided that we would take the route of baby-led weaning (BLW). It seemed like the sensible thing to do and a perfect continuation of on demand feeding.
So, Charlie had his first solids at just shy of 6 months, as he started going crazy in his highchair demanding our food.
His first food was some Broccoli and Sugar-snap Peas. He loved the broccoli!
Since, he has been introduced to a variety of food, including:
- Banana
- Watermelon
- Lychees
- Peach
- Apricot
- Plum
- Oranges
- Pear
- Mango
- Dragon Fruit
- Avocado
- Carrot
- Green Beans
- Sweet Potato
- Cucumber
- Asparagus
- Tomato
- Peppers
- Egg
- Wheetabix
- Pasta
- Rice
- Pretzel
- Bread
- Duck
- Pizza
- Fish & Chips
- Steak and Sweet Potato Chips
- Thai Green Chicken Curry
He gives everything a good try and is definitely swallowing some of the food already.
He really enjoyed some of Ella's Kitchen Pear pouches today. I learned my lesson after the Mango one went flying across the room, stained his outfit and bib as well as the highchair!!
He gets really angry if we try to help him by turning his pre-loaded spoon the right way round for instance. He is definitely a prime candidate for BLW! We struggle to get him to open up for a spoon when we need to give him medication.
I have found cooking nice food very rewarding and love the taste. I am amazed that his naps are long enough to get most foods done, or at least started to be completed during the next nap!
Dinner will probably be a Chicken Stir-Fry. Can't wait
